The 8th International Adaptation Futures Conference (AF2025) was held in Ōtautahi Christchurch, October 13-16th. Hosted by the University of Canterbury, Adaptation Futures is the flagship event of the World Adaptation Science Programme (WASP). With a focus on climate change, this conference enables practitioners. policymakers, researchers, and academics from across the world gather to network, collaborate, learn and inspire. The Te Puna Vai Mārama team was grateful for the opportunity to present both in person (Sieni Tiraa) and online (Lauren Turner and Selane Tairea).

Sieni Tiraa presented alongside fellow researchers and academics Tina Newport and Rima Moeka’a on the Cook Islands Climate Adaptation to Land Through Tenure, Traditions and Tenacity.

Lauren Turner and Selane Tairea presented alongside Fiji-based project colleague Luisa Wara (Pacific Community) on the Pacific’s Collaborative Regional Research Agenda: A Case Study Examining Pacific Island Farmers’ Challenges in Growing Crops Under Changing Climatic Conditions. Together, their presentation showcased the partnerships behind the production of the Pacific Heads of Agriculture and Forestry Services’ Regional Research Agenda, presented a selection of findings from five countries across the Pacific, and ultimately celebrated the spirit of collaboration that underpins this research.
