Attendance at the Crawford Fund Conference
The Crawford Fund Conference is an opportunity for researchers, academics and policymakers to share insights on how agriculture is connected to global challenges. It brings together leading experts from around the world in agricultural science, research, policy, development and industry to address the key topic and theme of the conference Progress and Prospects for Climate-Resilient Agrifood Systems: Actionable Recommendations for Policymakers and Practitioners.
Following the Regional Research Symposium in Tonga, Research Officer Selane Tairea was selected to present on findings from the 2024 Farmers and Climate change survey and to promote research done under the Pacific Heads of Agricultural and Forestry Services Regional Research Agenda. The research was carried out by Selane Tairea and colleagues (Lauren Turner, Heather Worth, Temarama Agnuna, Tearoa Iorangi, Puna Kamoe, Kuraiti Rasmussen, Vincencia Vakapora, Eitiare Vano) from Te Puna Vai Mārama – The Cook Islands Centre for Research in collaboration with the University of the South Pacific and the Cook Islands Ministry of Agriculture.
The presentation topic, Aka’tika Uira (Realign the wheel): An analysis of the climate adaptation methods adopted by farmers in Rarotonga, Cook Islands. Amidst panel discussions, workshops, radio interviews and the presentation, this was a great opportunity to meet individuals who are enthusiastic about doing ethical and meaningful work in the Asia-Pacific region. For Selane Tairea it was an honour to represent the Regional Research Agenda and a privilege to be one of the voices for the Pacific at this conference.
