Cook Islands writers gather for Tuatau tātā: a season to write

As a postlude from the Pacific writing retreat in Lautoka, Fiji came the ripple effect in the Cook Islands through Tuatau tātā. From 27–29 August, Te Puna Vai Mārama hosted Tuatau Tātā, a season to write held at the Muri Beach Club Hotel, facilitated by Sieni Tiraa. Tuatau Tātā provided a dedicated space for Cook Islanders to focus on writing and the dissemination of information, free from everyday distractions.

Supported by DevNet, the initiative created an environment where participants could break through the hardest part of writing for most, which is getting started. With the serene beachside setting and a community of like-minded writers, attendees found inspiration and motivation to focus on their writing.

One participant shared, “Provided a space with no distractions but lots of temptations “side eyeing” the beach and pool but also lots of like-minded people to just pause and focus on priorities (writing ones). Really appreciated this location and the invitation. Meitaki Atupaka.”

Another reflected, “Being inspired by other people writing around me. Sensing other people working hard created the best environment.”

Tuatau Tātā marks an important step in cultivating and nurturing local voices by supporting Cook Islands writers to amplify their voices through written pieces.
